Acclaimed director Erik Leijonborg moves to Bonnier Broadcasting’s drama unit
Continuing their major drama initiative, TV4 and C More are bringing in star creator Erik Leijonborg as executive producer in the drama unit. Leijonborg has a long and accomplished history as a director, most recently with the Netflix series The Last Kingdom. His CV also features drama series like Brotherhood, Farang, Maria Wern and Thicker Than Water.
“After all my years as a director, I’ve reached a point where I want to share my experience, so when TV4 got in touch, it absolutely felt like the right challenge for me. The idea is that I will keep a hand in as a director while going in and working with TV4, becoming a natural part of their team,” says Erik Leijonborg.
Reinforcing the drama unit with Erik Leijonborg is another important piece of the puzzle in C More and TV4’s long-term investment in high-quality Swedish original drama. From his perspective as a creator, he will have a key position in the unit and will, in addition to the executive producer role, be a resource in the effort to quality-assure existing projects and scout new ones.
“I’ve had the privilege of working with Erik in the past, so it feels fantastic that he is now becoming part of our talented drama team at TV4 and C More! Erik will be a vital resource in the work to advance our drama projects in terms of content and quality – and an invaluable source for finding new creators and ideas,” says Josefine Tengblad, Head of Drama at TV4 and C More.
Erik Leijonborg’s major breakthrough came with the miniseries Brotherhood, winner of the Swedish Television Crystal Award. Since then, he has been a sought-after director and is behind successful TV series like Maria Wern, Farang and Thicker Than Water. Leijonborg’s latest project is the Netflix TV series The Last Kingdom.
TV4's drama department continues to grow and further recruitment will be communicated shortly.
